Travelling to Asia: what to plan for
We currently cover 19 destinations across Asia, each with its own consular practice. These are the themes that come up on almost every Asia file.
Documentation standards differ sharply within the region
Neighbouring countries in Asia can take very different approaches: one may issue an e-visa in days while the next requires biometrics, attested certificates and an in-person interview. Never assume a checklist transfers from one destination to another, even for the same purpose of travel.
Attestation and legalisation
Employment and study routes across much of Asia require educational and personal documents to be attested through the full chain and legalised by the destination mission. Because that runs on third-party timelines, start it before the visa application rather than alongside it.
Building a multi-country itinerary
If you plan to visit several countries in Asia on one trip, sequence entries so that visas with the shortest validity are used first, and keep reservations consistent across the whole route. We map the itinerary against each visa's validity and permitted stay before anything is booked.
Seasonality and appointment pressure
Holiday seasons, pilgrimage periods and local public holidays compress appointment availability across Asia and stretch published processing times. Applying six to eight weeks ahead of peak dates is the single cheapest way to protect your travel plan.
